The January 2012 calendar image is of the D'ni library., Every January I wax a bit nostalgic. 2012 marks the beginning of the fourth year since I started making calendar wallpapers of MYST/URU ages.

The library represents a place of learning to me, a place where one can read and better themselves. At the top of the stairs in this image is light, a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment. All fitting for the beginning of a new year.

May we all learn and better ourselves as we start anew this upcoming year.

December 2011 Calendar Wallpaper - Tahgira

The December 2011 calendar image is of the icey age of Tahgira. I wanted to use an age that had snow in it and I have used images of Eder Delin twice within the past few years. I did manage to get a shot of Rime but it was a little more granular looking than I would have liked. That was simply due to the graphics in the original game. By process of elimination that left Tahgira, which I am glad I used. It is from MYST V END OF AGES and I have never used Tahgira in any previous calendar wallpapers. I hope you enjoy it.

My best to each of you this Holiday Season. May you enjoy that special feeling that seems to permeate throughout the month this time of year.

The November 2011 calendar image is a view of Teledahn. I really like the color contrast in this image. The browns seem to give it a warmth that is accentuated by the blue portion of sky and its reflection in the water.

October 2011 Calendar Wallpaper - Rebel Hive

The October 2011 calendar image is of the rebel hive in Riven. It is the first calendar wallpaper I've made from the Riven series. I have no doubt that all of you die hard fans have noticed something is different with it as well. Since the original image I used was a bitmap, the sky was a bit too grainy for my liking so I extracted it and placed the hive under an almost clear, starry sky. I think it added to the, ahem, "Mystique" of the image and I find it even more fitting in this iteration for the month of October and the Halloween holiday.

The September 2011 calendar image is of the Channelwood Age from MYST. It is the first wallpaper I've made from any of the MYST Ages. I chose it in honor of the 18th anniversary of the release MYST as it was released for the MAC in September of 1993.

I enjoy the serenity of the photo as well and hope you like it as we enjoy the last month of summer.

July 2011 Calendar Wallpaper - Caldera

For the Northern Hemisphere it is summertime and in Utah, where I reside, it has been HOT recently. What better captures that sentiment than a bright sky shining over a caldera? The Moitey dagger just kinds of adds the explanation point to it all :-).

June 2011 Calendar Wallpaper - Noloben

I liked this image of Noloben for June. The sun is out, yet it doesn't seem too hot at the beach. It conveys a mild warmth which I found appropriate since the first day of summer is June 20th, the summer solstice.

For the first time I used a color other than white for the calendar portion. When using white, the background image washed out the numbers in areas and it was difficult to see them. Due to that I experimented with the brown color in different shades. This was the final result. I felt it stood out enough without overpowering the image as a whole. I hope you enjoy it.

May 2011 Calendar Wallpaper - Eder Kemo

First off, my apologies on the late post. I had the flu for the first week of the month and that set me back a good deal. I created two other wallpapers utilizing images of Tohmana which I really liked the only problem was I couldn't get them into a 1600x900 format. I'll continue to see what I can do to resize them, I just ran out of time.

Due to that, the May 2011 image is of the monolith in Eder Kemo. Somewhat Spring like with the flowers and Kemo Bamboo.

I've also posted this at MYSTgallery where you can change the dimensions before you download it if you want something other than the 1600x900 resolution.

The April 2011 calendar wallpaper image is of the Egg Room. I thought it an appropriate image to use for the Easter Holiday, even though it is a little darker than I was hoping for, especially for a Spring image.

March 2011 Calendar Wallpaper - Direbo

I've received a number of requests to make calendar wallpapers using ages from the whole MYST series as well as from some fan created ages. The March 2011 calendar wallpaper image is of the rest age Direbo (from MYST V END OF AGES). It is the first calendar I've published that doesn't use an image from any iteration of URU.

I like the soft, relaxing tone Direbo has and find it a cross between Kadish Tolesa with a touch of Teledahn. I hope you all like it.

I still have plans to add new sections and features to the MYSTgallery website but it is going a bit slower than I planned. I appreciate your patience and in the meantime I hope you like the content that is being added.

February 2011 Calendar Wallpaper - Teledahn

The February 2011 calendar wallpaper is of the hut in Teledahn. Although the colors are a bit warm for February (unless one is in the southern hemisphere :-) I liked the falling pollen that looks like snow.

The colors are similar to Shaper's Office (January's image) so March is going to be something different. I already know what image I am going to use for April and I'm quite excited about it.

The January 2011 calendar wallpaper image is of Shaper's Office. I really like this image, especially for the symbolism of a New Year. There's the library in the background symbolic of knowledge, his journal on the table representing the previous year. A photo of a past memory, a poster of "Shroomie" a great view of D'ni out the window or through the telescope and of course a Bahro linking tablet for those awaiting a new adventure. Who wouldn't want an office like this?

Due to some technical difficulties the MYSTgallery.com website isn't 100% complete and working, especially one of the main features. With that said, I've released the site but still have some wrinkles to iron out. You can visit it at www.MYSTgallery.com.

December 2010 Calendar Wallpaper - Eder Delin in Winter

Season's Greetings! The December 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of Eder Delin in the wintertime. I am quite fond of the colors in Delin, especially the red bushes against the white snow.

I liked this shot for December because of the snow, soft colors and lighting. If I could, I'd temporarily remove the small stone under the monolith and place a lit Christmas tree there!

Due to most of my time being spent on getting MYSTgallery.com designed and ready to go live I wasn't able to get a 16:12 format designed for this month. I hope that doesn't disappoint too many of you.

The November 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of a Relto. The vibrant color of the tree leaves was fitting for Fall an seemed "Thanksgiving-ish."

I have included a "Non-US" version for those URU fans that do not live in the United States. The only difference between the two versions is that the Thursday, November 25th date is not glowing (Which is the US date for the Thanksgiving Holiday).

Additionally, since I procrastinated not doing a 16x12 format for the month of October (which I apologize for) I have ensured that one has been done for this month. It is not the exact image but it is as close as I could get. The 16x12 sizes are also in US and Non-US format as well.

On a side note, I'm working on a special project regarding URU and desktops. The "release date" of this is scheduled for the first of the year. More to come on that as development progresses.

The October 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of the pyramid in Kadish Tolesa . I like the colors, lighting and falling leaves. It seems like an appropriate scene for the Halloween season.

The September 2010 calendar wallpaper image is a Bahro Cave with totems. I bounced back and forth between this image and one of the blue Bahro Caves. This had more of a "warm" feeling so I chose it.

Since I've had requests for both 16:9 and 16:12 formats I've added both this month. As you can tell, the shots are slightly different but I like them both. I hope you do as well.

Life is crazy this month but it is good. Hope you're all doing well also.

August 2010 Calendar Wallpaper - Bevin

The August 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of the Bevin. Since it's hot in August and I remember seeing countless URU fans jumping in the fountain over the years, I thought it fitting to use this shot for the month's image.

I have received a number of requests to post the monthly calendar images in a 16:9 (1600x900) format. My new monitor (HP2010i) allows for it and so I have accommodated those requests. If there are individuals who would still like the 1600x1200 images posted please let me know and I'll try make both sizes available next month.

July 2010 Calendar Wallpaper - Minkata

The July 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of the Minkata Age. I was hoping to capture all three suns of the trinary star system planet but doing so skewed the image. The barren, hot planet seemed appropriate for the month especially with the heat wave that is over the Eastern United States.

My sincere apologies for the late post. My family and I have been in the middle of moving to a new home over the July 4th holiday weekend and all internet in the home was gone. We just got hooked up again today. I will try to ensure future posts are never late again.

June 2010 Calendar Wallpaper - Er Cana

The June 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of the Er Cana Canyons. I like the mixture of light and shade in this image as well as how it encapsulates the diversity in the Age with the Tri-Stalk plants, scrub bush, grass, and winding rock formations.

This part of Er Cana reminds me of The Narrows at Zion National Park. I've posted an image below for a comparison (other images can be found here).

May 2010 Calendar Wallpaper - Eder Delin (Spring)

The May 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of Eder Delin in Springtime. Delin is one of my favorite ages. I love the color contrasts of the Age in both Winter and Spring.

Last month's image was of rain, and as I stated in my previous post, "April showers bring May flowers." It was sort of a hint of what was to come this month.

The April 2010 calendar wallpaper image is of the Desert Cleft in Springtime. I like the colors and contrasts in this photo and felt it appropriate for this month's image as "April showers bring May flowers."

Koi Pond App

Do you love the pond in URU's Eder Kemo Age? Like to watch those large Koi-like fish swim around? Well, The Blimp Pilots may not kow the Dn'i Art of writing but they certainly have X-Code down. Koi Pond, the best selling iPod Touch app in 2008, is an interactive application that allows users to set multiple configuration options for their own virtual pond.

Want to change the water color, number of fish and lily pads? There are multiple options for each.

Ambient background noises can be set to chirping birds, a sloft blowing wind, frog croaks or cicada sounds. There are also options to make it rain or to dim the sunlight.

The graphics are crisp and you can actually interact with the water and fish with the touch of your finger. Splash noises and ripple effects follow any touch of your "pond."

January 2010 Calendar Wallpaper - Kerath's Arch and Stairs

Greetings and Happy New Year to all of you. Although the New Year's Banner in Bevin would have been the obvious choice for the January 2010 Calendar I went a little more cerebral and symbolic and chose Kerath's Arch and the mid-point of the stairwell in D'ni.

The image represents what was left behind in 2009, essentially, what is "behind" us. The sunken ferry boat could represent dreams unfulfilled. The significance of the mid-point of the stairs is that as we look forward, at the top of the stairs there are new adventures and things to find (in this literal case, the library, museum and concert hall - let these figuratively represent what each of you will).

The wallpaper dimensions are 1600x1200.

The December poll asked the question "What Christmas gift would you like to get?" There was a tie between Gehn's watch and Firemarbles. I have to say I'd have been happy with either myself!

My best to you in the New Year as I am hopeful that MORE will advance, step by step giving use each the chance to meet again in the world that we all love and know that is URU.

December 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Sharper's Office)

Shorah and Happy Holidays to all Cyan, MYST, URU fans out there. There's a different feeling that happens around this time of year and as I've looked back at the MYST series and how it has progressed through the years I reflect on ages such as Rime and Eder Delin during winter.

At present we all await the future of Cyan and still hold out that thread of hope that someday, the journey will continue. I still look forward to that day because I love this series.

Until then, I present to you the December 2009 Calendar Wallpaper image. I thought the Christmas tree in Sharper's Office was fitting and as I worked on it I thought, "Wouldn't it be fun if I decorated that tree a little more?" and that thought led to "Wouldn't it be neat to pack some fun presents under it!" Hence, there are two posted images (I know everyone wants that Squee plushy).

Additionally, I wanted to personally thank Janaba1 for taking the time to send me some excellent screen shots of Sharper's Office. The image I used was one that she sent me. Thanks Janaba!

November 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Bevin)

Bevin, located in the Ancient city of D'ni, is the image for the November 2009 Calendar Wallpaper. Both the Kirel and Bevin "Hoods" have these beautiful gardens full of light, water, and rock pathways. They are a sight to behold.

Next month wraps up the 2009 Calendar year and I can't believe it is so close. My aim was to create a Microsoft VB application that housed multiple images of URU Ages and then let you, the user, choose which one you wanted to use for the month. That month's calendar would be "stamped" on the image, thus giving the fans the opportunity to display any image they wanted.

Time constraints and knowledge issues have been hindrances but I have not given up on the idea. More to come on that in the future.

October 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Kadish Tolesa)

The October 2009 Calendar image is of Kadish Tolesa. Although Kadish has a number of great images to choose from I really liked this one for the Fall month of October - A big moon, leaves falling from the trees, a sky that is slightly foggy with a hint of twilight - It just seemed perfect.

I hope you enjoy looking at it this month. I think it may be my favorite so far.

The September 2009 Calendar image is of the Gahreesen Age. I originally thought it was a little dark for a desktop but then upon further reflection I felt it appropriate, Gahreesen being an Age that indeed holds dark secrets.

My apologies for releasing it a day late. It was finished on time but work and other commitments crashed upon me this week and I lost track of time.

July 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Minkata)

July 2009's calendar image is an evening view of the Minkata Age. Its desolating landscape of petrified fumeroles and dust acquire a haunting beauty in the evening as a constant breeze carries dust over the landscape. A blue hue permeates the land as a majestic spiral galaxy slowly moves in the skies above.

I had a picture of Minkata during the day that I really wanted to use (Hot weather under a couple of suns sure seemed to compliment the theme of July's summer heat) but the resolution was 1680 x 1050. As I stretched the image to 1600x1200 the proportions were too skewed. I can't complain though because this was just a beautiful image. A special thanks goes out to Mystdee for sending me the base image to use (the dimensions are 1600x1200).

June 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Teledahn)

June 2009's calendar image is of the Teledahn Age. It's unique landscape of rock and water mixed with large mushrooms, hue changing skies and an incredibly quick rotating sun make this Age an incredibly fun one to explore.

The image is 1600x1280 and I have slightly enhanced the contrast to bring out the richness of color. Although I still haven't purchased a new video card I don't think it has diminished the quality of the image.

May 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Eder Gira)

May 2009's image is of the Eder Gira Age at twilight. Lush greenery can be glimpsed in the distance as rock formations create an interesting contrast to the beautiful waterfalls. Gira Rays swim in the water below as they luminesce under a sky that will soon bathe the Age below in the light of dual moons.

The image is 1600x1280 thanks to utilizing an ATI Radeon HD 4350 video card that I was able to borrow from work. As one can tell, the image size and quality have greatly been enhanced from previous image postings. I'll most likely be purchasing a GeForce 9800 GTX card this month which should allow for even better images in the future.

Special thanks to Anaerin for the video card suggestions and ddfreyne at Cyan for his tips in regard to increasing image quality.

My thanks to everyone else who has commented on the calendar submissions as well. I'm glad they are being enjoyed.

April 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Eder Tsogal)

Sorry for the slight delay in getting this out. I had another image that I was working on and it just didn't seem to fit for April so I changed to a shot of the Eder Tsogal Age. I had difficulty with the day's numbers showing up clearly due to being in the trees. I've overcome that a bit by bolding them. They don't have as sharp a contrast against lighter colors unfortunately. Nevertheless, here it is. I hope you enjoy your Spring calendar image of Eder Tsogal Age. It is 1280x1024 in size.

March 2009 Calendar Wallpaper - (Eder Kemo)

Eder Kemo nudged out the Minkata Age in the March 2009 calendar poll. It seems appropriate though since Kemo is a more Spring like Age. I battled between this image and one that had the Moss Trees and Kemo Bamboo near the main rock formation. This one won out. I hope you enjoy it.

February 2009 Calendar Wallpaper (Er'Cana)

January 2009 Calendar Wallpaper (Eder Delin)

I had this idea last year and after creating July 2008's wallpaper I really had nowhere to post it. I've decided, it being a new year, to begin this project again. I'll be posting a new calendar wallpaper of various URU Ages each month. If you have any thoughts on what Ages/Images would be good for certain months please post here or on Mystonline under the Creativity Forum, Monthly Calendar Wallpaper Topic.

I have had some requests to move the calendar portion in the photo from the top left corner of the image to the top right. I have made the requested modification and posted both wallpapers. Download whichever you find more to your liking. As always, thanks for the input.

Additionally, I noticed that there was a "floating" gold spec in the wallpaper I posted below (The URU Mirror Wallpaper). I've corrected that and reposted it.

I made this wallpaper about a year ago and liked it because of its simplicity. With the announcement of MORE (MYST Online Restoration Experiment) and Cyan's releasing the game tools to open source I just felt moved to post this.

Eder Delin Wallpaper

I created this wallpaper soon after Eder Delin was released which was prior to the February 20th date that showed the Age after snow storms. I'll be creating a wallpaper with those snow images as soon as the Age storms again.

I'm presently researching if Google Blogger has the capability to host downloads (specifically of screen savers). I have one of the Eder Delin Age that I would like to post for your enjoyment.

This wallpaper is 1280x1024 in size. Let me know what you think. I'll be adding different items to the site from time to time.
